Loading heavy bikes can be awkward, but here it’s as simple as tapping a lever. The Kuat Piston Pro X uses hydro-pneumatic struts that automatically open and close the arms, so you can guide your bike into place with both hands free. Each arm locks onto the wheels—not the frame—keeping your paint and decals untouched. Bridges are labeled for 20", 24", 26", 27.5", and 29" tires, making setup quick no matter what wheel size you’re running.
Whether it’s a road bike or a fat-tire e-bike, this rack is built for it. The Piston Pro X carries four bikes at up to 40 lbs each, with trays that fit tires from 18" to 29" and widths up to 5". Grooved wheel trays let you shift bikes front to back to avoid handlebar clash, so everything rides steady. The front two positions can be removed when you only need space for two, keeping it lighter and more compact for smaller trips.
Grabbing gear mid-trip doesn't mean unloading bikes. A spring-loaded hand and foot pedal lets you tilt the rack down even when it’s fully loaded, giving you instant access to your cargo area. When parked or stored, the rack folds up tight, staying clear of walkways and garage doors. It’s a small thing that makes daily use and travel stops a lot simpler.
Brake lights and turn signals are built right into the rack, powered by a 4-way flat connector that syncs with your vehicle. That means you stay visible even when four bikes block the tail lights. The rack also locks down tight—a braided steel cable secures your bikes, and a stainless-steel hitch lock keeps the rack itself in place. Both are integrated, so there’s no extra gear to fumble with.
For those hauling e-bikes or step-through frames, the optional telescoping aluminum ramp (sold separately) takes the strain out of loading by letting you roll bikes on and off. A hook-and-loop strap kit (sold separately) adapts the setup for bikes with fenders, keeping everything stable and protected. Together, they make the Piston Pro X ready for just about any ride you want to bring along.

After a year I’m still floored by the quality, and ease of use. Had a pinched wire for the tail lights, and Kuat sent out a replacement set of wires no questions asked for free. To notch company!
